Naans don't have to be oval or teardrop–shaped. They're often circular; other shapes are illustrated here on Wikipedia.
Nor is a naan the only type of bread that's cooked in a tandoor. To quote Wikipedia: "A tandoor may be used to bake many different types of flatbread. Some of the most common are tandoori roti, tandoori naan, tandoori laccha paratha, missi roti, and tandoori kulcha."
